Golfing
Finding a better city to live in if you are a golfer is going to be a bit of a challenge. Our weather is conducive to year-round golf with over 330 days of sunshine per year. Scottsdale has some of the best-designed courses in the country in settings that are picturesque and interesting.
Tom Weiskopf has designed several courses in North Scottsdale including the Tournament Players Club (TPC), the Troon North Golf Club and the course at DC Ranch, one of the top planned communities in the area. Additionally, top golf architects who have contributed to designs in the area are Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior, Jay Morrish, Billy Casper, Robert Cupp, Tom Fazio, Bill Grove and others.

The Tournament Players Club
"The great thing about Tom (Weiskopf, the course architect and '73 British Open champion) is that he takes pride in his courses," TPC GM Bill Grove said. "He still comes out two or three times a year and makes subtle changes to make it better. It might just be planting a tree here, or extending a bunker there, but he's always tinkering, fine-tuning and polishing."
Accolades for Scottsdale Golf
Many of the golf courses in the Scottsdale area have received high praise from not only golfers but from top publications such as GOLF magazine and Golf Digest. Thirteen of Scottsdale's golf courses are included in Golf Digest's "Best in State" rankings - more than any other community in Arizona. The Estancia Club, designed by Tom Fazio near Pinnacle Peak, was the highest ranked course.
Golf Digest picked hole number 14 on Troon's Monument Course as one of the "Best 18 Holes You Can Play". The 18-hole "Monument" course at the Troon North Golf Club facility features 7,028 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.
Of the top ten "Golf-Home Markets" in the Southwest ranked by Golf Digest, Scottsdale came in number one! Following Scottsdale on the list were Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Maui, San Diego and others.
The FBR Open
Formerly the Phoenix Open, this tournament continues to draw record crowds. Played at the TPC in North Scottsdale in February, this is one of the earliest tournaments of the year. In 2006, the rookie J.B. Holmes won the FBR Open by 7 strokes and finished his final round at a 5-under 66. This was his first PGA Tour victory!
