But it's a dry heat!

Scottsdale and the Greater Phoenix Area are attractive to people in part due to the magnificent weather we experience for most of the year.  The area experiences little rainfall (about 8 inches annually on average) with over 300 days a year of sunshine.  With that being said, it also gets hot in the summer, especially in July and August.  You will no doubt hear the expression "But it's a dry heat!" since the low humidity makes the temperatures much less oppressive than in Florida or other high-humidity locations.

You will find that local residents head to the beaches of San Diego or the mountains of the Mogollan Rim two hours north on weekends during the hottest times or else they head to one of the local lakes to enjoy the water.

Ski Arizona!

Arizona Snowbowl LogoThere are, to the surprise of many who haven't been to this state, two ski resorts in Arizona. 

Link ImageArizona Snowbowl - One of the oldest, continually run ski areas in the United States!  Located on the majestic San Francisco Peaks, the Arizona Snowbowl lies 14 miles outside of Flagstaff, 2 hours from Phoenix, and 70 miles from the Grand Canyon. The resort opened in 1938 and operates from 9 AM to 4 PM daily.  There are stores that rent ski and snowboarding equipment in Scottsdale and Phoenix as well as several in Flagstaff along the way.

In winter, the three mountains offer some of the finest skiing in the Western United States.   Their 65 runs promise adventure for skiers of any level.   There is also a separate snowboarding area, cross country ski trails and a special children's "ski-wee" area.

The Sunrise Park Lodge, located near beautiful Sunrise Lake, is available for comfortable lodging in the winter and summer seasons.  The 100-room hotel offers great dining, indoor pool and whirlpool, lounge and game room. In summer, a marina is open for boat rentals.
